They provide a structure for the work, while an agile and iterative approach keeps feedback part of each stage. For a customer, the useful question is what each stage makes clearer or puts into use.
Discover focuses on business goals, stakeholder interviews, workshops and requirements. Its outputs include a shared understanding of the challenge, feasibility considerations and a roadmap. This is where the team identifies what needs to be solved before committing to a detailed implementation.
Design turns that understanding into solution architecture, UX/UI design, technical planning and estimation. A delivery plan connects the proposed solution to the way it will be built. Decisions made here help the customer assess scope and approach before development progresses.
Build includes coding, integration, testing and security by design. Regular demos and stakeholder updates make the work visible. Working software gives the team something concrete to review, helping feedback influence the next iteration.
Deploy covers release planning, go-live, user training and change management. Hypercare and stabilization help the team address issues around the transition into everyday use. Deployment therefore includes preparing the people who will operate the system.
Optimize continues with performance monitoring, feedback and data. Enhancements and improvements follow the needs of the business. The scope and acceptance criteria for these outputs should be agreed for each engagement; the framework provides a way to discuss them clearly.
